Hooray! Slippers

Little M requested new slippers. She had outgrown her other crocheted ones. I bought the pattern from ravelry here so it felt good to use it again. I waved this ball of yarn at her hopefully and she said "I love it!"

The yarn is quite awful, you would use it for nothing else but slippers! I bought 4 balls for £2 the lot to make my tribal belly dance belt and I had one irksome ball left over so it was a good way to use it up. It is called Patons Zig Zag: 95% Acrylic and 5% Acetate. I can feel sparks flying as I type the words!

On the plus side it will be hard wearing and it is not slippy on our floors. Little M loves them but there is no accounting for the tastes of a five year old.

My favourite part is the butterfly button so I am calling it a success.

Have you ever made things you don't like because your
recipient loves the choice, do tell us?

  1. I once made a bright orange owl for a sixteen year old girl! And I was told to include not pink what so ever! I do not do orange! I didn't even own orange wool ! I knit owls btw they are on my blog www.knitwits-owls.blogspot.co.uk

  2. I like the slippers though I can see the yarn isn't lovely and soft and squishy! My son asked me to knit him a black jumper with yellow stripes. Strange but he loved it.

  3. Not my choice of yarn but the slippers are a delight and great that your daughter loves them. I do love the button. I once crocheted a black/white shawl for a new baby that I hated but it was what was wanted.

  4. I don't know, I quite like the screaming colours...for a little girl at least. I don't like the feel of acrylic yarn, no matter how soft, it still feels acrylic and doesn't smell of animal. Still, my daughter Annie wants a crochet blanket and I am using Stylecraft DK with a colour combination that I would not ever choose. My oldest, Sam, wanted an orange jumper with grey stripes. B&Q orange. There is no arguing about taste :) What makes them happy makes me happy. xx

  5. I love the idea of making slippers in this way and I am sure that your daughter will absolutely love them too! A little bright for me perhaps, but you wouldn't loose them easily would you! I might have to look into this to make some in perhaps a more subtle colour! xx

  6. That yarn is perfect for a little girl's slippers. It looks very strong and my daughter would have loved those colours.

  9. The button! Oh it's fabulous!

But five year olds really do have wonderful taste. Everything bright and colorful all at once?! I love it, but could not get away with it as an adult!

  10. Ahhh you have given her Happy Feet to dance through her days, Mama :) As for your question, I can't remember such a project, but I do remember noting after I gave someone a hand knit dishcloth, that they preferred sponges! xx
